On October 3rd, 1964, in Buffalo New York, chicken wings were born. Since then every restaurant has seen fit to add them to their menus, in a variety of forms. Hot, Medium, Mild, Suicidal, and Spicy BBQ rounds out the options at Anchors Bar, the birthplace of the wings. But sauces are available from just about anyone and there are hundreds of recipes on-line for those more into flavoring them yourself. However, one of the craziest lists of wing sauces I’ve seen come from a site called www.insanechicken.com and from some of my personal favorites including www.Franksredhot.com. So in honor of the birth of the Buffalo Wing, my list today is of sauces I either love, or am dying to try.
-
Franks RedHot Chile n Lime – technically a hot sauce, but great on wings and fish tacos.
-
Franks RedHot – an indispensable sauce, can’t imagine a kitchen without it.
-
Franks Buffalo Wing Sauce – made for wings, but still with Frank’s great bite.
-
Anchor Bar Original Sauce – From the home of the wings.
-
Anchor Bar Suicidal Sauce – For those who like it hot
-
Jim Beam Wing Sauce – Perhaps best served on Bourbon Street
-
Orange County Chopper Wing Sauce – Ok, I confess to a morbid curiosity on this. Will it taste like Oil and Gasoline? If it taste like gas, will it be premium, or the just the 4.00 a gallon stuff? Are you expected to stretch the ends of the wings if you use this sauce? I just don’t know.
-
Wing Time Hot Sauce – I’d be surprised if this wasn’t part of the Detroit Red Wing’s pregame buffet.
-
Scorned Woman Wing Sauce – I’m a bit worried there might be a nasty aftertaste on this one. And your credit card may be charged every month for the rest of your life.
-
Famous Dave’s Devils Spit – One of my favorite BBQ sauces that seems to have been made for wings. No good spread of wings is complete without at least a few seasoned with this sauce.
Now that I’ve made you hungry, go out and celebrate the birth of the Wings. Enjoy, and feel free to share your favorite wing sauce!
